Attendance Guidelines

Late Arrivals

• Students are allowed up to 5 late arrivals with a parent note to be excused.
• After the fifth excused later arrival, a doctor’s note is required in order for additional later arrivals to be excused.

Vacation Days

• Students are allowed up to 5 excused vacation days per school year.
• Vacation days must be pre-approved by administration.

Absences

• Students are allowed 5 parent-excused absences per school year.
• After the fifth parent-excused absence, a doctor’s note is required for absences to be excused.
• The 5 pre-approved vacation days and absences covered by a doctor’s note do not count toward the 5 parent-excused absences.
• If a student is absent due to illness for 3 consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required on the 4th day.
• If a student is sent home sick by the school, the following day will automatically be considered an excused absence, even if the student has exceeded the 5 parent-excused absences.
  • This does not apply when a student is sent home on Friday.
• If a student has an excessive number of medically excused absences, Ms. Ortera should be notified.
• Year-long blanket medical notes from doctors will no longer be accepted.
  • Example: “John Doe is under my care for allergies. He has trouble during certain times of the year, so if he misses school because of this condition, please excuse his absence.”
• When a doctor’s note is submitted, only the dates specifically listed on the note will be considered medically excused.
